The Benefits of Deep Breathing

May 20, 2011
I was recently reading a book titled, “The Celestine Prophesy.” One of the chapters in the book is all about engaging in the flow of energy. I was interested in reading this chapter because I have been very busy with planning a preschool graduation and a summer camp. With so much on my mind, I have been feeling really sluggish and I thought I would give deep breathing a try.
In the book, Father Sanchez shared how he balanced his energy and energized his mind with deep breathing.  In fact, Sanchez recommended that we take deep breaths, hold each breath for 5-minutes; each breath pulls in energy into us like a balloon and we actually become more energized.
After reading, I decided to give it a try. I took 5-6 deep breaths and exhaled through my mouth. I was immediately energized.  In fact, I was in  a positive mood and decided to practice deep breathing through out the day.
The next time that you feel tired or simply need some energy, give deep breathing a try. Working with children requires plenty of energy and deep breathing is  a sure way to recharge your body. Check out this article…..

While working with children, you are exposed to germs on a daily basis. To assure that your immune system is strong enough to fight off the germs that you are exposed to daily, it is vital that you eat more foods that are high in antioxidants or consider taking a whole food supplement.
According to the National Cancer Institute “antioxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals.  Many of these antioxidant substances come from fruits and vegetables.”  Fruits and vegetables contain a powerful array of antioxidants that offer protection for our bodies.

Good Sleep is a staple of Optimal Health.

May 5, 2011
To assure that you have plenty of energy to run your business and/or care for children, it is vital that you get plenty of sleep. Researchers are discovering how sleep is vital for learning and memory, and how lack of sleep impacts our health, safety, and longevity. Moreover, sleep provides an opportunity for the body to repair and rejuvenate itself.
Are you getting enough sleep? You may experience the following symptoms if you do not get enough sleep:
  • Memory problems
  • Depression
  • A weakening of your immune system, increasing your chance of becoming sick
  • Increase in perception of pain
According to Web Md, the sleep requirements for each person depend on many factors, including age. For example, in general:
  • Most adults need seven to eight hours a night for the best amount of sleep, although some people may need as few as five hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep each day.
  • Women in the first three months of pregnancy often need several more hours of sleep than usual.
However, experts say that if you feel drowsy during the day, even during boring activities, you haven’t had enough sleep. Check out this video on Why Sleep Matters.
